The balsam fir is native to eastern North America from the area around New Hampshire.
Tree profile
The needles are fresh green, oblong with a rounded needle tip. The needle bottom there are two significant, white stoma stipes. The needles are about 3 cm (1.2 in) long and 1 cm (0.4 in) wide.
The male inflorescences are red, cylindrical and are accumulated. The female flowers are round.
Oblong, brown and upstanding cones.
The cultivar 'Nana' is very small in stature and is often used as grave planting.
The fir is an upright growing tree with a trunk continuous. The branches hang down only very slightly.
