The Large leaved lime is native to Europe. The dried flowers are processed into lime blossom tea. Leaves, flowers and fruits of lime contain oils that are used in various home remedies. The lime is a good bee pasture.
Tree profile
The summer green leaves of Large leaved lime are heart-shaped, little hairy, sharp serrated and up to 12 cm (4.7 in) long. The leaves have a fresh green. The underside of the leaf is light green and in the vein angles are often white tufts of hair.
The flowers are yellow and form cymes. The hanging cymes become up to 7-11 cm (2.8 - 3.9 in) long. The flowers smell strongly.
The fruits are gray felted spherical nutlets.
The branches are reddish brown and usually hairy. The buds are red-brown, pointed, and protruding.
