The oak is also called Japanese or Asian chestnut oak. It is native to Asia. The oak is now also cultivated in the eastern part of America.
Tree profile
The leaves are 8-20 cm (3.2 - 7.9 in) long and up to 6 cm wide. The leaf margin is cut evenly and the leaves are alternate.
The yellowish flowers in hanging catkins appear from late April with the budding of the leaves.
The acorns are first green then brown, about 2 cm long, usually solitary. The fruit cup wrapped most of the acorn.
The branches are brownish with a few lenticels. The brownish lateral buds are individually and the terminal buds occur frequently. The bud-shape is ovate.
